What our children want from us….
Life is so insane, our schedules are full up making sure our children have everything and get to do everything and that they are fed properly.  That they attend ballet and soccer, French lessons oh and don’t forget the Italian algebra in Chinese pre varsity course that they need to attend just in case they need it for college.  I’m joking but we so busy being our children’s PA’s that we sometimes forget to be their moms.

In a Lifehack blog post that I read, a teacher asked her students, on Mother’s Day, their advice on how to be a great mom.  Take some time and think about your answer, think of it from a mom’s perspective and then think of it from when you were a child…….

And?

What did you come up with???

Guess what!  Al they want is to spend time with you. That is it!
Just lying on the bed chatting,
Reading them a story
I have a mug of hot chocolate/ cocoa with my son and we chat about life
NEVER underestimate the power of hugs and kisses and telling them how much you love them or how proud you are of them
Taking time out with each child on their own no siblings just quality individual time
Colouring in with them, I mean sheesh! They even have adult colouring in books
Involve them in planning the weekend activities, I am lucky, my boys just want me to play tag with them, (bonus workout session)
Have movie night on the chilly autumn and winter nights where you can eat chocolate and cuddle under blankets and duvets with pillows and fluffy socks.

They just want you, they just want time with their mommy.  So when you are madly sorting out their diary and schedule, don’t forget to block out some time for mom.   They will be so happy, and so will you.

What every mom wants.... 2 hour more

In doing a little research apparently what a mother wants the most, is just 2 hours more sleep in the morning.  Really?  Is that it?  Just two hours more?  Well ladies if that is the case then I have some answers for you.

There are two options, and all it takes is a little planning, educating and laying down the law, just a little.

Being a very single mom, that means that when the boys wake up, the day starts, well moms, somehow I have made it that my precious little BOYS  (6 and 8) yes that’s right I said boys, give me as long as I need.  They wake up on a Saturday or Sunday morning, gently get up and head into the cottage to entertain themselves until I wake up and make them breakfast…. Dylan, my youngest, even tucks his mom in.  How I managed to do this….  Well we have had open lines of communication since they were born and we would often and still do bundle onto the bed and have meetings where we chat about all sorts of plans.  At one of these meetings I chatted to the boys and asked them for some extra time, I explained why, and now we are where we are.

When I was married, we had an agreement that it was one weekend on one weekend off, or it would be structured according to day and schedule etc.   so he would get the Sunday or the weekend and I would get up for the boys and then let him sleep in and visa versa.  It was really cute cos we would have a system where the awake one would get a message saying send them in and we would send the boys in to wake the other one telling them to go tickle mom or dad.  It was a thing.

So there is always a way, even if it is a Sunday morning or an afternoon nap, you can find a way.  I promise you can.

Uvooma matatah my boys version of the classic, and in my opinion I love it more….. no worries no cares but with drive and enthusiasm, how amazing is that?

That is exactly what my child did and I am so incredibly and unbelievably proud of him, I can learn so much from my little men.  Determination with patience and a sense of knowing, the perfect combination, no self-doubt,  they just know it will all work and it will be fine, and I look at them and I hate how life and knowledge and experience has literally screwed us up!  Big time!!!
Can you imagine how different everything would be if we could walk into every challenge and face every beautiful opportunity with that bright knowing faith, I mean my boys still question a little, they are cautious, but they know what they want and that end goal and that excitement is what keeps it all together and that! That is just too glorious for words.

My Vaughn, well, he wants to be a youtuber.  And he as watched and leant and   practiced and played and been quietly observing for a long time now, patiently learning and tonight my son made one of his precious dreams come true and he uploaded his very first video, and within minutes had three views, can you imagine the thrill and excitement that little boy is feeling.  Before I get a million and one emails about “bad parenting” trust me, I am watching everything very closely but there is no way in hell I was going to postpone a dream of his.  Or put him off, if he had said “mom I want to be a famous daredevil, please get me a pit of cobras so I can practice, well um no. not happening.  And him leaning about programing, design and eventually engineering, which is clearly where he is heading, this is actually going to be helping him, big time.

Anyway none of that is the point, the point is my son saw an ambition of his come to life tonight, and he did all the hard work to make it happen and as a mom, I would not be more proud of him.  I strive for that knowing…..  I want some of their uvooma matatah.
