Psyching myself up to have to ask if I could move my lunch breaks around to be able to support my own son at his sports fixtures, my boys have always been my priority, my heartbeat and I could not shake the feeling I was letting them down. I had tried to rationalise it and explain it to them, but more to myself in all honesty, that I had to work I had to do this for our wellbeing. Still it did not sit right.
In the evenings we would rush home, get supper on do homework I would squeeze in a training session, then bath time supper time and bed time,………. Deep breath, and sit down to work on my own business, my passion and my dream.
I found myself in a position that I was extremely unhappy in and as much as so many people told me to find something else I refused, I knew that If I placed myself into something else I would be comfortable again, NO! I took that discomfort and “pain” and I used it as fuel to fire up my drive and determination into doing what I truly wanted and that is to be a mom to my perfect children. I used it to fire up the drive and determination to set myself free from the life sucking “ day job”. Today I sit here and I did it. I am free and I am running my own business.
The reason I am writing this all is not to brag but to say to you that if you want to, you can do this too! You can make it happen, and I know that you probably do not have a clue where to start, it is ok, I am here to help and lead you to the experts that helped me….. if you want to be true to yourself and you feel you are living a lie right now then maybe this can help you. Please! I am NOT an expert, but I have done so much research that I am wanting to pass the information on to you.
Right you ready? You want to dive it?
Ok here we go.
RULE NUMBER ONE:- do not start a business to make money.
Sorry – WHAT?
You read it correctly!
When you start a business just to make money, you heart soul and passion wont truly be in it and your clients and customers will see straight through that and call you out on it in one way or another. If your heart and soul are not in it, you are wasting your time.
Starting a business in NOT a get rich quick thing, it is hard work it is long hours its giving up those very tempting social events its consistency it is drive passion and damn awesome!
Why do people start a business, its generally for one of two reasons
1:- There is an unmet need in the market place
- How to easily get babies to sleep
- An underwire in a bra that won’t try to stab you in the heart
- Weightloss inducing chocolate ( no not blooklax)
2:- A heartfelt desire to create and make a difference
- When you have a burning desire that is inspired by a talent or a gift
- A turning point in your life inspires you to help and teach
- You have over come an obstacle
- You have ideas on how the world can be a better place.
What would your ideas do?
You yes, YOU are here for a reason, you are this exquisite unique blend of strengths, talent, perspective and life experience – why waste that on feeling unhappy every day, why waste that on feeling numb?
When you do things for the right reasons, you love every minute of it, it keeps you up at night and wakes you up early in the morning with new vision and passion, it’s like getting those messages from your crush, when you have to catch your breath and you can’t stop smiling, that warmth that floods through you.
And guess what, the money will come…..
So, are you ready? Next week we will look at starting the right business for you and look at what stops you from taking those steps, I hope you will join me and in the mean time, why not take some time out, make some coffee or tea or pour a glass of wine, find quiet spot, grab a journal or paper and a pen and contemplate these questions…..
Why do I want to start my own business?
How will starting my own business feel?
What do I think it will bring to me and my family?
What will I be missing out on if I don’t?
What regrets will I have if I don’t?

Now, it’s the future, you have done it, you succeeded, what does that look like, how does it feel?
I will catch up with you again next week.
